I always forget about one. So, anyway, I am getting rid of this one, to slimpify things a little. I won't shut this account down right away...probably in a few weeks, after I've given everyone a chance to find me.12:33 AM - 14 views - 6 eprops - 4 comments - email itSaturday, April 01, 2006Thank you all for your prayers. Daddy went home this afternoon, so I'm on my own now. The car is working beautifully now, so I can drive to school, since it is my left leg that is injured. It's actually easier for me to get into the driver's side of a car than the passenger's side. Update on the leg: X-rays are back. It is not broken. So I'm down to one crutch, and only in public as extra support to keep me from falling. And the knee still won't bend. Remember skip-its, anyone? Those things you put on one ankle and spin while you jump over it with the other foot? That's how I have to walk without my crutch. And I can't go very fast. So we're down to damaged ligaments or tendons or both. That and possible infection in the cut. I want to go to church tomorrow, but we'll see how I feel in the morning. More prayer requests: I have two papers due on Tuesday. I am behind in my language labs, since I normally do that on Thursday but didn't this week due to my injury. My dad has some things at work that are really stressing him out. My sister is still fighting the school to get her schedule for next semester changed back to what it was originally.9:17 PM - 18 views - 6 eprops - 3 comments - email itFriday, March 31, 2006Things I Have Learned From My Injury (In No Particular Order) I have a lot of friends. When using stairs with crutches, always use the good leg first going up, then swing the crutches and the bad leg at the same time, and going down the crutches go first, then the bad leg swings forward before placing the good leg on the same level as the crutches. Truman State University's campus is not handicap accessible. (I think I could write a book on all of the problems I experienced today.) Standard handicap bathroom stalls are not really adequate. (I would give more details if it weren't for the fact that there are guys who read this.) It is next to impossible to open a door while using crutches. My car has another funny quirk. Besides the fact that the battery is under the left front wheel axle, if you want to get to anything else under the car in order to work on it, you have to first remove the gas tank. It is very difficult to sit down when you can't bend your knee. Some people are very willing to help and others ignore you. There really isn't anyone between those two extremes. It is very humbling to have to depend so much on other people. You think Calculus is hard? Try walking when every little step has to be carefully planned before you take it. (Okay, so I'm being a little sarcastic about the Calculus part. It really is hard.) Never volunteer to read the part of Lady Macbeth. My Shakespeare professor was teasing me. We are reading Macbeth, which is supposedly a cursed play. There are a whole bunch of stories about injuries and car accidents and sudden deaths of both people and animals associated with it. Anyway, last Tuesday I read Lady Macbeth's part in class. And Thursday, neither I nor the guy who read Macbeth's part were in class. My professor didn't know yet why he wasn't there, but she said they had been joking about it in class. Thank you all, for your encouragement and your prayers. Rainy, I know you could have helped. I know many of you would have helped if you knew or had been near enough. And there were some who did help me. Right now, my Daddy is shopping for me. It's just different asking friends to help, even though I know I would do the same for all of you. I did go out twice today, once for a class and once to eat lunch with Amanda D. And my hands hurt so bad from the crutches the doctor has me on. Of course, not as bad as my leg hurt before the crutches, but anyway...I still don't have a diagnosis, which is a little frustrating. All I know is that my knee doesn't work at all. Most of the pain is gone, but I can't bend my knee and I can't put much weight on it or I fall. My car is repaired. There was one more interesting incident. Daddy and I were on a one lane gravel road which was wet from the rain we had yesterday. And we hit a soft spot and the truck got stuck. The man driving behind us pulled us out. Daddy had been joking all morning that it wouldn't be a bad day until someone died or he had to get his hands dirty. So when the truck got stuck, he exhaled loudly and said, "Now it's a bad day." But, God is very good.:) My family and friends have been praying for me. And I hope the results come back as something that will get me off these crutches in six weeks or less.4:00 PM - 17 views - 6 eprops - 3 comments - email itThursday, March 30, 2006Today has been a very bad day. My car died on campus this morning. Most likely, it's the alternater. Remember what I said recently about the wipers and not having access to enough money to get them repaired? Normally I would have just stayed on campus all day. However, I had a paper due at 10:30 that had not yet been printed, and it was 9:05. I live about a mile and a half from campus. So I had to walk home. (Well, I didn't have to. I know people who would have gladly given me a ride, but I didn't want to ask.) Then I had to print the paper, get on my bike, and ride back. Well, the shoes I had on were boots...not the most ideal footwear for riding a bike, but I couldn't find my tennis shoes. And I also discovered that riding a bike with a back pack is very different than riding a bike without a back pack. Anyway, the bike hit an uneven spot in the sidewalk when I was on my way back, and I didn't have enough control of the bike to prevent a crash. The bike flipped, and I was thrown into a parked car and landed on my left leg. I cut my left knee pretty bad and bruised my leg. And I think I might have pulled some muscles in my back. But because I am stubborn and refuse to admit to people that I need help, I told everyone who witnessed the fall that I was fine and got back on the bike and rode about a block before the pain became so excruciating that I just couldn't do it anymore. Then I got off and walked the bike the rest of the way home, which was about half a mile or so. Now I am sitting here, in a lot of pain, waiting for my Daddy. He was going to help me get the car fixed over the phone, but now he has decided he needs to just come here and take care of me.:) I have, however, found that I really do have people who care about me (as if I didn't already know that). And hopefully nothing else will go wrong today.2:39 PM - 5 views - 14 eprops - 7 comments - email itTuesday, March 28, 2006I took my genetics test today. All the questions were descriptions of processes. There wasn't a single genetics problem on this test! But I was thankful, because I'm still not used to working genetics problems under this new method (without the punnet squares, using statistics equations instead). I am finally done with this heavy work load, and I am so happy! I still have a test on Thursday and a paper due on Tuesday, but the paper is a final draft. So that's not nearly as bad as what I've been dealing with the last week or two. Casey and Rainy, maybe this week I'll actually be able to do the reading before Bible study. I am just so thankful that I made it through this week.9:26 AM - 3 views - 4 eprops - 2 comments - email itNext 5 >> create your own visited states map or check out these Google Hacks.
